session she explained the various options that were open to instructors, ranging from refresher training with companies such as ourselves and Edge Services, through facilitator and instructor courses, to diploma level courses. She then asked Jacqui Hall back to the stage to explain the Post Graduate Courses on offer by the three main moving & handling universities (Southampton, Loughborough and Northumbria).

Bill reflected on his time 54 years ago when he first commenced with public speaking. His technique and style has improved a little bit since then. He still says he has a long way to go. He felt comfortable with the discourse. However, Bill was the first to experience the sound difficulties. This he said actually gave him an opportunity to relax. But what it did do was delay him somewhat so he didn’t actually finish his presentation. You will see from his notes that he missed quite a chunk out.

Fran, Moving & Handling Coordinator form Hastings & Rother PCT gave a discussion entitled “Preparing your session”. One of the things she spoke about was ensuring you look out for those with special needs. Being dyslexic herself, this is an area that is close to her heart, but for the majority of us, it may well be an area that we fail to give enough attention to.

The only bit I’ve missed out so far is my session, “Linking theory with practice”. It is an area that I feel strongly about as I’m sure past students of mine will testify. I mentioned the need to adequately inform your staff of the reasons for certain principles and not to just tell them. I looked specifically at the drag lift.
